The USCCA Forum is Gone
« on: August 12, 2013, 11:11:43 AM »
Tim has finally shut-down the USCCA Forum. All that's left is a farewell letter and a few recommendations for other forums (fora?).
This forum is not among the recommendations.

I think that refusing to recommend the several offshoot-from-USCCA forums—this one, My Concealed Carry America, Defensive Handguns—decisively proves Tim's smallness-of-mind, and perhaps vindictiveness as well.
Certainly, it does not speak well of his mindset.

The USCCA forum lasted longer than I thought it would after it was clear that we HAD to buy their insurance. Not surprising though considering the forum membership was such a small amount of the USCCA, that Tim didn't waste much time in shutting it down. It's lonely at the top I guess.

Me thinks that whole organization is taking on a persona that can only be referred to as Front site East, IMHO.

Does money actually corrupt that much?
Seems like the start held such promise.
Even when he went into the insurance business the forum still was alive and well.
Granted . . . It went through changes but new arrivals continued to appear.

Just thinking out loud . . . .   ::)

It was not as healthy as it seemed.
There were tons of people that were listed as members who were not really there.
especially when he tried to force the insurance on us.
people had ongoing stories and they just stopped posting.

speaking of the forum
There was a story of some pot heads that got invited to a meal at a hunting lodge.
on guy took off his coat and one of the pot heads saw the gun and went crazy and called the cops.
the pot heads ended up getting arrested for their pot...
does any one know who that was that posted the story?
I would like to know how the court case came out and I would love it if they could repost the story here.
I may have a copy of it some where, I would have to dig for it.
it is really funny...
Time will tell.

The forum and the magazine were the best parts of USCCA in my opinion.

actually I believe it was the USCCA. The other stuff was just added stuff.
It was the community that made it great fun to be a part of.

Yeap! . . . There are several off shoots from it.
Another one has surfaced and just started for those that might like to check it out.

Looks as if letting my membership lapse in July was the right choice. I was always astounded that they listed thousands of members, but it was a rarity to have more than 10 members on the forum at a time. Something wasn't right with those numbers. Still miss the magazine, although I didn't care for the magazine re-do. I thought the previous magazine covers with women, children, and senior citizens helped portray Concealed Carry as a mainstream activity. I think the writing was on the wall when Kathy left. I'm just glad many of the quality members came here from that site.

I didn't know Kathy left but I can see why she might. I think that she and Tim had different visions for that platform and I can see where that wouldn't be workable.

So, do you guys think Tim's claim of 60,000+ members is ... ummm ... "overstated" a bit?  ;)

I just read Tim's reasons for closing down the forum. I have to call BS when he says it has become unmanageable. How can it be unmanageable when there is no activity to speak of? Maybe it's because quality moderators have been jumping ship. (Many coming here) The forum was the main source of dissent and disagreement with Tim's policies, and I suspect he didn't want those "distractions".

He was always best at the "BS"!
Everyday I write the truth to who I am by what I do.
Life achieves its summit, when it does the uttermost what it was equipped to do.
It's always easier to shift the responsibility of one's existence, to lean on others rather than stand alone, but I refuse to place my destiny in another's hands.

I'm still a first-year member of USCCA, and I've been disappointed by several aspects of it.  I'm thinking about taking Tim up on his "Bullet-Proof 365-Day Guarantee" and ask for a refund.

Anybody want to talk me out of it?

IN short:  Yes.

Tim's product indemnifies only the USCCA....not the member.  It only pays as a reimbursement AFTER the fact, and then only if the 'board' determines that there is merit to doing so.  In the meantime, you may have to hock your house or take out a huge loan to cover all your immediate expenses.

Thanks, Robert and Brademan.  My impression is that the ACLDN and NRA both provide far more dependable products.
