A Down right useless set of shooting gloves
« on: October 25, 2012, 12:47:49 PM »
With cold weather coming I found myself in need of a new set of shooting gloves for the winter months, and so picked up a set of Damascus Stealth X Neoprene w/ Thinsulate & Waterproof Liners (having found the unlined versions of the gloves to be an excellent fit for spring/fall use)

Unfortunately when I tried these on I found they had at least a a 1/2 inch of padding in the finger tips of *all* fingers. (including the trigger finger) making it impossible to perform dexterous actions with them on.

(I ordered a medium and the gloves were a very snug fit, and yet the 1/2 of foam padding in the finger tips remained, there was simply no room to put my fingers any deeper into the gloves.)

The extra padding in the finger tips made it impossible to even get my trigger finger inside the trigger guard without snagging dangerously on the trigger guard itself (as in the extra padded length at the tip of the finger would not allow me to get my finger inside the trigger guard at all) and made ejecting a magazine take at least 30 seconds, during which I nearly dropped my Glock. (attempting to handle a loaded firearm with these gloves on is a great way to cause a ND.)

Just figured I'd give a shout out and let people know these gloves are useless to wear when CCing (or any other purpose tbh) so they won't waste their time ordering a pair.  >:(

The best ones I've found are those that leave the trigger finger free...course it depends on the geographical area...thanks for the shout out...

The down side to those are they don't stand up to a 0F Vermont winter very well, and when worn outside the range they also have the downside of making it pretty obvious your CCing to anyone that sees you wearing a set of gloves without the index finger.

As for the best gloves, I've found Hatch Specialist All–Weather Neoprene Shooting Gloves to be excellent for fall spring use in temps down to around 30F
