I have had to retrain more ladies out of flinch imposed by the "Here try this lil' darlin'" school of thought than I care to think about. My 11 year old step daughter recently shot a Glock 21 and did a respectable job at 7 yards (farther than I start my basic students). Just about anyone who does not have a medical condition (like arthritis) can handle almost any handgun with proper training in technique.

Muzzle blast often has more to do with flinch than actual recoil.
