Lead Hardness Tester

Does anyone have any experience on how to check lead hardness without purchasing a tester?  I am thinking about trying to cast my own in the near future, but found that the testers are rather expensive.

Here's a link and an association to check out:

Somewhere in their site is a chart that shows relative hardness for different lead alloys.  I used it in the past, made up several,  but haven't time at the moment to locate the chart for you.  It doesn't replace a tester when you're trying to find out the hardness of a cast alloy, but does give a guide as to what to expect when alloying. Hope it helps.
