This makes you wonder what kind of shotgun was used.  GG = 1  BG = 0

I would bet it was birdshot and from a distance where the shot was spreading out.

From the Comments section:

"Posted by weeds at 6:40 p.m. Dec. 31, 2012
The homeowner had him dead to rights but he still shot him anyways? that is some cold stuff. this is what is wrong with this country. shoot first mentality. the homeowner probably was never in any danger. looks like he caught the would be burglar off-guard. so he shoots anyways? that is sick, paranoid and cowardly"

I bet "weeds" would be wetting himself and curling into a ball if this happened to him.  All the while crying to the cops "Come and save me from the big bad burglar."

+1 for the guy for protecting himself
-1 for not using better ammo, ie. double 00

"Weeds" is probably in the same line of work. He just wants to establish a safer work environment.  ::)

Ya suppose they get 'hazardous duty' pay in that line of work.  I would opt for something less hazardous, like disarming EIDs.   ???  I doubt if someone got shot in my house with my shotgun that they would still have their eyes.  He's one lucky dude.

See, you shouldn't let anger mess with your actions! Why else would he have fumbled the slug drill? :P

Slug drill is where you swap ammunition in a shotgun, commonground. Encompasses various methods for pulling out the round you don't want to shoot and loading the round you do want to shoot.

^^^^^ What he said.

It varies by gun, just like the manual of arms, and there are arguments pro & con but it considered a standard part of the combat shotgun skillset at this point. The treason for the term "slug drill" is because the most common application is to replace a buckshot load of some type with a slug for the next shot.

Thanks CR, like I said, never heard of it.  I have heard of alternating slug, buckshot, slug, buckshot.  Seems easy to just eject the unwanted one and rack the next one. That's fairly easy on my Remington Wingmaster. I guess you could go ahead and shoot the first one to get out of the way or you could just shoot them all to make sure you get the loads you want.  ???  I usually keep an all buckshot load for the short distances of home defense.  Anyone shot in the face with those .25 in diameter shot won't be loking for more.  I doubt if they will be looking at anything.

Your reasoning (and the capacity of most shotguns) is why the slug drill came into being. After playing around with the idea, some folks decided (like you) that a full load of buckshot was going to address most situations and it was better to keep slugs close by but not loaded in order to have as much load in the gun as possible on the buckshot side.

The drill is pretty straightforward after you've fired to the first round in most cases. You just slip the slug into the mag through the loading gate, making it the next round to be loaded, and then jack the slide, ejecting the unused buckshot and loading the slug. If you have not yet fired you must jack the loaded round out first to make room in the mag.
