US Weapons 'Full of Fake Chinese Parts'
Thousands of United States' warplanes, ships and missiles contain fake electronic components from China, leaving them open to malfunction, according to a US Senate committee.
by Malcolm Moore in Shanghai

The US Senate Armed Services Committee said its researchers had uncovered 1,800 cases in which the Pentagon had been sold electronics that may be counterfeit.

In total, the committee said it had found more than a million fake parts had made their way into warplanes such as the Boeing C-17 transport jet and the Lockheed Martin C-130J "Super Hercules".

It also found fake components in Boeing's CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter and the Theatre High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) missile defence system.

Isn't China the same country that puts antifreeze into pet food, makes toxic drywall, and makes toys with lead-based paints?

How is it that our government couldn't see this coming.

Yeah, but get this - the Chinese fortune cookies in my local Chinese restaurant are made in the USA!  Is this world crazy, or what?

The government isn't exactly outsourcing--rather, they open sourced as a cost cutting measure, i.e,. purchased parts on the open market to avoid the inevitable "gold plated $5000 toliet seat" issue so common among U.S. defense contractors . Unfortunately, the Chinese, master forgers that they are, have been taking our computer garbage and recycling the parts, sanded down and repainted to look like new and then sold as such.  These knockoffs are the source of the problem.  The Chinese are also well known for making under spec fasteners (bolts, rivets, etc.) that are required to have specified breaking strength for use in aircraft.  That story broke some years ago, and not having heard anything further, I assume that some sort of QC must have been put in place, because these fasteners, just like the electronics, are critical to safe operations.  The Chinese government hasn't sone a lot to stop this and opther forms of piracy---this controlled capitalist sector of the ecomony has mad China wealthy.  But sooner or later it is going to have to cleanup the mess if people stop buying Chinese made products.  We'll hope, any way.

Seeing that we don't have the entire story as to what prompted the pentagon to do so, I say bravo!

To be able to sell, is it China,  (which the Pentagon had been sold electronics that may be counterfeit.)  WTG!!
