I may be looking at this wrong (hey, my eyes aren't what they used to be :D) but, it looks like it would be difficult getting a grip on the pistol with it so close to the inside of the desk. Or, is it just my depth perception is off?

It may be your eyes Skip, as I see a little room for the hand to be able to grab the pistol.  Note there's also a keypad atop the holster which means only you or those authorized by you could remove it...
