There's a new American Made .380 available - Not a good one :(

It's called the Hellcat and its by I.O. Inc of Monroe, NC.

"QUALITY MADE IN THE CAROLINAS. The I.O.INC
HELLCAT is a compact .380 Auto pistol, which is a
reliable firearm. Our hellcats are manufactured on
the latest Haas CNC equipment made in the USA.
We machine our slides out of solid steel. Once
machined, the slides get induction heat-treated.
This ensures proper, Rockwell, hardness at its
locking surfaces. Our frames are also machined out
of solid aircraft aluminum billets. Once machined,
they get anodized.

"Designed with both male and female shooters in
mind, the Hellcat is affordable and reliable."  (web
site)

Specifications:
Caliber: .380 Auto | Capacity: 6+1 Sights: Fixed
Length: 5.16" Width: 0.82"Height: 3.60" Weight:
9.40 oz. Barrel Length: 2.75" Barrel Material: Alloy
SteelGrooves: 6 Twist: 1:16"

Brass case ammunition recommended. Our Hellcats are
testfired with .380 AUTO 95gr. FMC MAGTECH ammunition.
"

After reading about this in Shooting Illustrated I
thought 2 things.  It's a lot like the Kel tec PF-9 in
composition, the no safety feature and other aspects.
I also thought after reading about it that it would be
expensive like the Rohrbaugh, but seeing the $225
MSRP I'm glad I was wrong.
Also like Kel-Tec, this too comes with a Lifetime Warranty.

There is no manual safety, magazine disconnect or
drop safety, it will fire with the mag removed.  It won't
use +P at all.  'Fired at 7 yard targets proved the pistols
capabilities at self-defense distances.'

Comes with one mag and padded soft case.  As well as
available in numerous finishes.

For those looking for a .380......

I have one Coastie. And I have had problems with it. The ejector failed completely at around 200 rounds through it. I let them know about it and they sent me a shipping label so I could send it back to them. I have it back now and it is fixed but jams about every other mag load. I can't give this gun my recommendation.

After I started having problems with my I.O. Hellcat I bought a Ruger LCP and have not had any problems with it. The LCP is not that much more expensive and it is worth the little extra expense for a reliable gun that will be used in self defense.

What kind of ammo do you use with it?

Still it's nice to know the cons about the weapon -
before I read about it, I had no idea the Hellcat
existed.

Everything I have read about I.O. Inc products from several gun forums, is that they make a bunch of JUNK and their only real selling point is that they are made in the USA. Well, a turd is still a turd regardless of where it's made or how much they try to polish it.

They've been making the Hellcat for a while now and I haven't read any positive reviews from actual owners/buyers.

I wouldn't waste any more energy researching the Hellcat .380

I.O. recommends only two brands of ammo for the Hellcat. I've tried both and the gun still jams (failure to feed) too often for me to trust it. I would feel really bad selling it to someone. I don't know how I.O. can sell it in good conscience.

Well. if that NC company won't learn from customers
who buy their weapons, and fix their pistols (for one)
then maybe they're making weapons for the wrong
reason.  Maybe it's a tax write-off, maybe it's another
reason.

But the above comments are 'Good Enuf reasons' for
me not to invest any money with them.  Thanks all!
