see full story on the above link.

Frank Schwagel, the owner of a Shell gas station in Sauk Rapids, Minn., was sick and tired of being pushed around. His gas station was robbed twice in three months, so he decided to stop being a victim and take proactive steps to try to stop this from ever happening to him again.
Schwagel decided to do something unusual, according to WJON-TV. He put a sign on his gas stationís front door last week offering discounts after 7 p.m. to police officers or anybody who shows him a conceal carry permit.
The sign has predictably gotten people talking, which is what Schwagel was aiming for.
Time will tell.

Is he wanting the Police and public to do his self defense work for him?

That is exactly why there are SHEEP and then there are SHEEPDOGS.
That is what God made in the Garden . . . . Wasn't it?

Please elaborate.

I'm slow to grasp, sometimes.

That is fine if he welcomes law-enforcement and licensed gun owners - as long as he can become a licensed gun owner himself and become responsible for his (and his workers) safety.

One has to remember that a sheep dog is raised to assist the sheepherder in tending the flock. Although protecting the flock may fall in with the protective tendencies of the sheep dog - protection is secondary to the tending.
What most 21st Century Americans simply do not grasp is that the Constitution and Bill of Rights were not written to to give rights to the citizens of our then-new nation, but was instead written to tightly constrain the federal government.

Well, consider it this way.

If I were a cowboy on a cattle drive back in the old West, my sole purpose is to help get the cattle to market.  That means guiding the herd, picking up strays, putting down sick cows, roping and branding, and eating beans and farting in the fire afterward.  I work for the cattle owner.

I carry a 1873 Colt and I have a Winchester or a Henry rifle to protect the herd from rustlers and wolves. But, my sole purpose is still to get the herd to market.

If we flip to the sheep, I am not a sheep dog, I am the sheep herder's dog. The sheepherder has trained me to help him tend to the flock.

Now, I like cattle and I like sheep; they are very tasty when prepared well.

When it comes down to it, we take training to protect ourselves.  We don't like being beaten, stabbed, shot, or becoming Tyrone's bed buddy.  Saving the life (or property) of someone else is a moral issue. Even the police do not have the responsibility to protect and serve the individual, but they do have the responsibility to protect and serve the community.

I don't know what I want to be called (if anything), but I don't consider myself a sheep dog.  I am just an old bull who tends to his herd and will protect it to the best of my ability if need be.

Now, where's my coffee?
